The ride home with Big Momma and Franklin seems longer than ever. Big Momma is not saying anything, which is not a good sign. I know better than to break the silence with any foolishness, so I just stay quiet. When we get home there is going to be a “Come to Jesus meeting.” And Big Momma is Jesus. That’s what Big Momma calls our conversations, especially if she has to get on to us about something we’d said or done while at church. She never yells or loses her temper. She just speaks quietly and directly to make her point. And usually, we get it the first time.
